Poems about transience. This is close to the most important theme in K-M Skalkenæs’ poetry. It just keeps popping up.

Why is that? Well, transience is an innate part of who we are and how we live. We are transient being, however much we like to pretend otherwise. Our surroundings change and we change – and that’s how life is.

K-M Skalkenæs embraces this in her poetry. It is easy to describe, but it can be hard to live with. There is no way of turning back or freezing time. And she firmly believes that it is for the best.

Transience is a thing of beauty, if you choose to accept it for what it is, and live with it instead of against it.

An Old Gate

Posted By K-M Skalkenæs

Grey wood, with reddish blotched spots that spread around the hinges – withered wood and rusted metal, bent by gravity and time – hanging on by habit only, guarding still the entrance to an abandoned site where lies a meadow, […]

Awaiting Thunder

Posted By K-M Skalkenæs

The heavy, humid feeling of something approaching yet not yet near enough to bring release. The pressure of the atmosphere, the heat, the irritation and the claustrophobia of the moment. You wait and wait and wait. But thunder comes whenever […]

My Hands Inwoven In Your Hair

Posted By K-M Skalkenæs

My hand was once inwoven in your hair – I feel it still. My thoughts rely thereon when through the air I sense – oh, thrill! – a smell like your perfume – I couldn’t bear to carry on without […]

The Streetlight

Posted By K-M Skalkenæs

You stood there, lonely shadow cast you on the pavement, the streetlight lit your hair on fire, I stood in the shade, admired how your breath escaped your lips in clouds of damp heartbreaks I stand under the golden light […]

Two Glass Shards

Posted By K-M Skalkenæs

We used to be a bottle before we broke apart. Now we are merely glass shards moved by the ocean’s heart And if we once should happen washed up on the same beach we, by the sea’s erosion, can never […]

New Poem: “All Outside of Me and I Outside of All”

Posted By K-M Skalkenæs

Watching tableaus change before my eyes – people moving, scenarios altered, everything now happens in a sort of vacuum – all outside of me and I outside of all. All outside of me and I outside of all I float […]

New Poem: “The Wait”

Posted By K-M Skalkenæs

I waited for the snowfall but when it finally came the snowflakes melted in the air before they reached the ground and all remained the same. I waited for the sunshine but when I finally caught a beam it had […]

New Poem: “snow angels”

Posted By K-M Skalkenæs

There was a girl with name unknown, her face was blank and blue her gown From where she came nobody knew and she disappeared like morning dew Vanished at the sight of sun its warmth could never reach her heart, […]
