I decided to compile my personal favourites out of my thousand-ish loose poems into three distinct collections, primarily to clean up the clutter and make them more accessible. This is the first of said three collections.
The poems in this collection deal with the melancholy that runs like a fine undercurrent beneath all other emotions – with the acceptance of change and the passing of time, as well as appreciation for the ephemeral nature of the world and life itself.

A lot of thoughts and deliberations went into this arrangement. I originally disliked the thought compiling the poems “out of context”. But as I came to realize, that isn’t at all the case here – rather, they strengthen and complete each other, and create their own context.
That, even though they were written up to seven years apart, and from different viewpoints.

Those who know me well may see me in places – and the vast majority will see a direct and honest description of life and the world. As it should be.

The Wait

I waited for the snowfall but finally when it came the snowflakes melted in the air before they reached the ground and all remained the same. I waited for the sunshine but when I finally caught a beam it had […]

A Rock for a Diamond

Child of the Unraveling

Black Hole

Your inner horizon I glimpsed, a flash of light ensnared my senses – but now your gravitational field grabs hold of me – and all pretense of freedom lost as I am caught in the web of your outstanding thought

Fingers

Posted By K-M Skalkenæs

Fingers stretch out everywhere to reach, to grab and tear – to drag life out of its hiding place, the withering flowers, the branches of the leafless trees – nature’s now-barren bowers with their beauty-spreading powers shielding emptiness – to […]

The Presence

You’re present here beside me you speak within my dream, you stir around me in the air like vapour in the steam Your voice I’ve known forever as much as I recall, and though I do not want you you […]

Intersection

Posted By K-M Skalkenæs

I gravitate towards you as you pass – a road that leads elsewhere than where I’m headed at – a meeting, brief exchanges, empty air remains – an era’s past in my timeline, another’s come – it’s just the same […]

Stray Thought

The Wasteland Where the Slaughterhouse Was

The Brightest Colours of the Setting Sun

Imagine This:

Posted By K-M Skalkenæs

What if the Universe created us in an efforts to understand itself? And what if we in turn produce art and literature in order to understand ourselves? It would not be surprising then if art and literature – in a […]
