I decided to compile my personal favourites out of my thousand-ish loose poems into three distinct collections, primarily to clean up the clutter and make them more accessible. This is the second of said three collections.
The poems in this collection deal with short moments of peace and tranquility brought on by such things as nature or music – short breathers from an otherwise hectic existence. They can range from the distant view to the hedonistic indulgence – the shared characteristic is the peace and enjoyment of the moment.
The name of this collection might (almost) as well have been “Odes to Beauty”.

The poems were written from 2010 to 2017, and although my writing style changed over time during that period, a remnant of latent Romanticism is an undercurrent throughout this collection – more than anywhere else – as these were poems I wrote inspired by sights and sensations, and as such they are highly emotive compared to my general production.
They express an appreciation for the simple joys and the beauty ever present around us that the vast majority of people have forgotten to look for, but could direly need to
re-discover.

A Glittering Treasure

Posted By K-M Skalkenæs

What is there hidden, deep within, whose rhythm can be felt when you begin your journey towards me – I think all thought must cease, no thought can no more please one half as much as you, right here beside […]

The Drawn-out Note

Posted By K-M Skalkenæs

The impulse sparked in me by your pulse – a pianist’s long drawn-out note, a tune of soulful melancholy revolving around love Vibrating, trembling in the air the note, materializing here in this soft, rhythmic atmosphere struck by your pulse […]

Roam

Posted By K-M Skalkenæs

Let us roam the Earth together with no plan or destination, travel inwards with eachother with no fear of deviation. Volatile and agile in our pursuit of every height and elevation, entwined by dreams we will endure and go beyond […]

The Sun Is Floating in a Sea of Mist

Posted By K-M Skalkenæs

The sun is floating in a sea of mist with two pale cloud-boats in its wake, and all the sky irradiates as it emits its golden light to mist and clouds alike Then sinking in the sea of its own […]

The Seashore’s Waves Break on the Sky

Posted By K-M Skalkenæs

The seashore’s waves break on the sky, the smoking curls of foam I see in tones from white to rose, the band extend along the invisible sea The winds of evening toss about the bands, the light turns them to […]

To Be Drawn

Posted By K-M Skalkenæs

’Stretch out your leg and bend your arm, look to the left – sit still.’ I stay poised in front of you while you the paper fill. And then a new pose, and another on and on again – what […]

Unpolished Gem

Posted By K-M Skalkenæs

You draw me in, unpolished gem With a clear sound music when you’re struck, it makes my head spin in ripples round Unpolished gem let me in Cast off your granite and let me behold for a moment the beauty […]

Moist

Posted By K-M Skalkenæs

landscape lost in a humid cloud of nebulous mist that moist descends upon us dispersing white mist, seesawing – what a sight to behold before us fog twirling around pale smokestacks, we are found within this world, swirling around droplets […]

Hanging on its Stalk

Posted By K-M Skalkenæs

glistening petals, pearly skin as white and rosy as a memory of fairytales told to me long ago – but somehow they don’t seem to be the lasting objects of veneration that I have sought, (that I came here to […]

The Rise and the Fall

Posted By K-M Skalkenæs

Out of the ocean rises it, transparent in its beauty, cocks head in joyful majesty and marvels at its power, then bends its neck when nearing land, in curiosity – consumes itself in foam and then collapses on the sand; […]

The Cornflower

Posted By K-M Skalkenæs

Balancing on a steady stem the tender purple bluish threads which make up its small, fragile head raised to the hiding sun, its rosy eye gleams to the sky, that through June ever blinds its eye to those who seek […]

An Old Gate

Posted By K-M Skalkenæs

Grey wood, with reddish blotched spots that spread around the hinges – withered wood and rusted metal, bent by gravity and time – hanging on by habit only, guarding still the entrance to an abandoned site where lies a meadow, […]

Sunset at Sea

Posted By K-M Skalkenæs

On such a pleasant evening I rejoice in the ocean’s waves’ ancient-old voice as they their thuds against the ship let sound amidst the vast, blue realm which us surround These waves, these North Sea hills and vales which I […]

In Moonlight

Posted By K-M Skalkenæs

As night-time falls I watch the moon’s pale reflecting light rise up over the horizon’s far-off dunes of fields with varying crops, and listen to the night’s saddening tunes of crying crickets and falling drops and an owl who lonely […]

Descending Moon

Posted By K-M Skalkenæs

Thin whirling veils of pink and gold are intertwined across the sky and dance in slow and graceful motion ‘round a perfect half-sphere, cold and white and drenched in mist that makes it wobble slightly to our eyes as it […]

Rainy Night

Luminescent night-air, walking in the dirzzling rain. There’s no light yet there is light and rain like mist with silence in its noise. Mid-autumn leaves cannot decide on letting go or holding on. No wind is there to help them […]

Danish December…

Silhouette

The Thunderstorm’s Approach
