Poems about time. How it changes and what the changes feel like.

It is inevitable, and must be lived through. But it allows us to learn and grow – whether we like it or not.

Many of the poems about time are related to the poems about transience. That is another common theme in K-M’s poetry. And for much the same reasons. She is fascinated with time, changes and likewise with how to cope.

Time is something we all have to deal with, each in our own way. It shapes and molds us, and fighting it is meaningless – yet some people choose that path anyway. K-M Skalkenæs does not – she rather preaches acceptance and coming to terms with it.

Dansen i ruinerne

Posted By K-M Skalkenæs

Posted By K-M Skalkenæs

En magnetisk kraft skubber mig væk – jeg rækker frem men jeg kan aldrig nå – en vind blæser mig bagud; det er den som alle mennesker holdes nede ad – småting, jordting, tidsbegrænsning, med værdi de ikke har – […]

New Poem: Old, Torn Lace

Posted By K-M Skalkenæs

Old, torn lace hanging draped over a sunkissed face. We’re old as a species though the planet thinks us young. … Paint that scales off house facades – crackled pavements worn by decades. Weathered, wooden fences – weathered, broken tiles. […]

My Antiquities

Posted By K-M Skalkenæs

The things I valued not so long ago – the things for which I lived and the ones I left untold are all now piled together into one close-packed rhyme for all now share in fate: They’ve fallen out of […]

All There Is Left Now

Posted By K-M Skalkenæs

An open, empty field covered only by the grass where something used to be – well, something had to pass I stare at the empty space and cannot fathom this – all that is left is emptiness Passing shooting stars […]

A Crooked Tree – I

Posted By K-M Skalkenæs

A lonely being, standing at the crossroad, abandoned by your family and friends – the healthy, youthful lot who once stood by you, now long gone – used as firewood by humans, made into planks, tools, ornaments of unknown use […]

Candleflames

Posted By K-M Skalkenæs

We’re candleflames flickering in the wind – the smallest change of weather and we all blow out again.

Heart of Rust

Posted By K-M Skalkenæs

Old ship, come to rest, torn yet stately, here at bay. Pulsing with the lapping waves pensively at anchor in the harbor, nested in the middle of the city. Red and latticed resting in its decorative decay. Like a withered […]

An Old Gate

Posted By K-M Skalkenæs

Grey wood, with reddish blotched spots that spread around the hinges – withered wood and rusted metal, bent by gravity and time – hanging on by habit only, guarding still the entrance to an abandoned site where lies a meadow, […]

Birdsong

Posted By K-M Skalkenæs

Warble birds your sweet, sweet song. Never stop. Go on. Go on. My heart’s heavy, my song’s spent. My head’s heavy, earthward bent. Sing a song of sweet delight, send it upwards to the light while I wander in the […]

My Hair Falls

Posted By K-M Skalkenæs

My hair falls in heavy waves like a red tide over my forehead and covers my eyes halfway – I should cut it, but if I did the parts your hands swam through would too be cut away.

Two Glass Shards

Posted By K-M Skalkenæs

We used to be a bottle before we broke apart. Now we are merely glass shards moved by the ocean’s heart And if we once should happen washed up on the same beach we, by the sea’s erosion, can never […]

New Poem: “The Wait”

Posted By K-M Skalkenæs

I waited for the snowfall but when it finally came the snowflakes melted in the air before they reached the ground and all remained the same. I waited for the sunshine but when I finally caught a beam it had […]
